Foundations of Behavioural Data Science for Business

Foundations of Behavioural Data Science for Business

Behavioural Data Science is a new, emerging, interdisciplinary field, which combines techniques from the behavioural sciences, such as psychology, economics, sociology, and business, with computational approaches from computer science, statistics, data-centric engineering, information systems research and mathematics, all in order to better model, understand and predict behaviour in practice. This field emerges as a direct response to the need for studying behaviour “in the wild”, outside of ideal laboratory settings and controlled environments.
Behavioural Data Science lies at the interface of all these disciplines (and a growing list of others) – all interested in combining deep knowledge about the questions underlying human, algorithmic, and systems behaviour with increasing quantities of data.

The Foundations of Behavioural Data Science for Business course enables participants to distinguish and navigate between behavioural data science methods and to apply the learned techniques to practical business problems.

Successful completion of the Foundations of Behavioural Data Science for Business course requires participation in 8 hours of face-to-face instruction and 12 hours of individual work as well as successfully passing the online test.

Upon successful completion of the course, students develop:
(1) ablility to to approach and define a problem suitable for behavioural data science techniques;
(2) ability to identify appropriate metrics and data;
(3) ability to select and apply behavioural data science methods to find business solutions with rigour;
(4) ability to critically evaluate suitability of data and analytical solutions;
(5) ability to communicate analytics findings for senior stakeholder/non-specialist understanding;
(6) ability to effectively manage data science and analytics resources; and
