Digital Health Essentials: enhancing multidisciplinary patient care

Digital Health Essentials - Offered by the Discipline of Biomedical Informatics and Digital Health in the Faculty of Medicine and Health

This micro-credential addresses the growing use of digital health technologies to address a range of health challenges. Participants learn from best practice in research translation techniques to enable the implementation and evaluation of digital health technologies in clinical practice.

The micro-credential is delivered online and includes a range of asynchronous activities and weekly live classes.

Completion of the micro-credential requires approximately 50 hours of participant effort.

On completion of the micro-credential, participants are able to:
i) describe the current provision and policy context of virtual care technologies, electronic health records/repository systems, and digital health platforms used in Australia;
ii) describe the benefits of virtual care technologies to patients, carers and health professionals;
iii) demonstrate how to optimise virtual care and use of digital health tools across multiple settings in health and care services;
iv) evaluate the current use of digital health technologies including virtual care, and formulate measurable outcomes relative to scope of practice and stakeholder needs; and
v) identify a service improvement or data monitoring project within scope of practice using virtual care or other digital health solutions.

To successfully complete the micro-credential, participants must complete all assessment tasks, including:
i) weekly in-course quizzes (30%);
ii) participation in weekly online discussion boards (15%); and
iii) developing a service improvement project plan (55%, including 5% video and 50% written report).

This micro-credential is credit eligible. Participants who complete the micro-credential and are subsequently admitted to the following University of Sydney award courses may apply for a reduced volume of learning of 2 credit points*:
Master of Digital Health and Data Science; and
Graduate Certificate in Digital Health and Data Science.

This is not a higher education award and not a qualification recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

*where 1 EFTSL is equivalent to 48 credit points.
